Etisalat warns against 'bait' calls

DUBAI// Telecoms operator Etisalat is warning customers of scam and fraudulent calls from bogus officials claiming to be from the company and offering cash prizes.

The company has put out the alert after a recent spate of fake calls to its customers asking people to transfer credit, provide personal information or share their PIN numbers to claim a huge cash prize.

Jaber Al Janahi, vice president of corporate communications for Etisalat, urged customers to remain cautious and pay attention to such "bait" calls.

He said customers should not provide any personal information like bank account details, PIN or eVoucher /recharge card numbers to unknown callers on the phone or through SMS or email.

"No such raffle or lucky draw campaign is currently being run by Etisalat," said Etisalat in a statement on Wednesday.

"Etisalat promotions are well advertised in the media and the winners are informed through a standardised process."
