Completing an inventory of Abu Dhabi's greenhouse gas emissions, increasing the number of air quality monitoring stations and stepping up efforts to regulate groundwater well use and drilling were some of the achievements listed by the Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi in its report for 2012.
The inventory, which will be released later this month, will provide data about the emirate's emissions and enable the Government to develop strategies to monitor and tackle them. In 2012, the agency also continued to study important habitats and species and to enforce environmental regulations in the emirate. It issued a total of 1,427 environmental permits for developers and other organisations, as well as 1,797 permits for groundwater wells and 259 permits for chemical trading companies.
The report was released to media on Saturday and will soon be available on the agency's website, officials said.
