Ban Ki-moon expected at Abu Dhabi green summit

The UN's top diplomat is arriving in Abu Dhabi next week.

Ban Ki-moon, the UN secretary general, will be among the high-profile delegates set to gather at the World Future Energy Summit.

The four-day event, which starts on January 17, tackles renewable energy and clean technologies.

Mr Ki-Moon is joining the UN's top climate official, Christiana Figueres, as well as heads of state, ministers and members of royal households. The event is organised by clean energy company, Masdar.

Meanwhile, yesterday, the man in charge of the Abu Dhabi-based International Renewable Energy Agency (Irena) said that the summit is becoming for green energy professionals what the economic forum in Davos, Switzerland is for economists.

"They had the vision of a Davos of the renewable energy field and they are pretty much there," said Adnan Amin, the interim director general

"It will be a very interesting mix of possibilities and very interesting discussions."
