The tent, which the hotel erects every year, usually follows a traditional Arabian theme.

Emirates Palace hotel's Ramadan tent is a cooler shade of white

ABU DHABI // The Emirates Palace hotel's Ramadan tent will take a more modern approach this year to beat the heat.

The tent, which the hotel erects every year, usually follows a traditional Arabian theme.

"This year we wanted something very modern - white everywhere because Ramadan is very hot," said Bugra Berberoglu, the hotel's general manager.

Shisha smoking is not permitted in the main common areas of the huge tent, which includes an iftar buffet and also serves suhoor, but an extension has been set up in the back for another lounge that will allow shisha.

The six majlises at the corners of the tent, set aside for private dining, will also allow shisha.

There will be television screens around the tent and lounges, and a live band will perform traditional Arabic music every night.
