UAE residents who require an Emirates identification card may soon be able to complete part of their application from the comfort of home.
The Emirates Identity Authority, which has been charged with putting forth the government's population register and ID card programme, will allow people to download and complete the registration form from its official website from the end of this month.
The move comes as part of the the authority's plans to improve its online services.
A test version of the online form has been up and running since the beginning of August as a means of working out any glitches ahead of the official launch.
A tracking system will also allow people who register online to follow the whereabouts and delivery time of their card from the moment they apply. As part of the registration process upgrade, a new call centre created specifically to deal with queries relating to the ID cards has been approved.
From mid-October, those who require an ID card but are not in possession of one will be fined Dh20 a day to a maximum of Dh1,000.
