School principal faces removal over standards

After a week long tour of state schools, the Minister of Education, Humaid Mohammed Obaid al Qutami, has called for an investigation of one school and the removal of a principal at another. Mr Al Qutami said in a press statement released today that the ministry is supporting schools in their efforts to raise student achievement. He said most of the schools he visited on his tour were up to standard. The two underperforming schools were found not to be providing a suitable atmosphere for teachers and students. Administrators at the schools were also faulted for not preparing properly for the new academic year. The names and locations of the schools were not released by the ministry. klewis@thenational.ae
