Abu Dhabi gifts Cairo a new language school

ABU DHABI // An Arab language school named in honour of Sheikh Zayed was opened at Al Azhar University in Cairo on Monday.

Sponsored by the Zayed Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation, the Zayed Institute for Teaching Arabic for Non-Native Speakers will accept students from around the world who wish to learn Arabic.

The National's sister Arabic newspaper Al Ittihad quoted UAE ambassador to Egypt, Mohammed Al Dhaheri, as saying the opening was an "act of appreciation, from the government and people of the UAE, for the role of Al Azhar Al Sharif [madrasa] in spreading and protecting the noble values of moderation in Islam."
