An American university is offering more than $100,000 in scholarships to students in the next academic year, officials have announced. Michigan State University Dubai, which is based in Dubai International Academic City, has launched its Distinguished Scholarship Programme for existing and new students. Three new students will have their $15,800 (Dh58,000) tuition fees paid for the forthcoming academic year and will also receive a $2,500 research stipend.
Four other new students will have their tuition fees fully or partly paid, while three returning students will be given research scholarships. Dr Brendan Mullan, executive director of MSU Dubai, said the university was hoping to find "outstanding students" for the scholarships. The university, which launched last year, is also holding its 2009-10 fees at the same level as those for 2008-09. "As a not-for-profit university, our aim is to help create access to world-class educational opportunities," Dr Mullan added.
MSU Dubai has degree courses in subjects such as media, communications, construction management, business and education technology. It is one of a series of foreign university branch campuses to have opened in a free zone. firstname.lastname@example.org
