Earthquake measuring 3.1 hits east of Masafi

A minor earthquake was recorded on Monday in the east of the country but is thought to have caused no damage or injuries.

The tremor, which registered 3.1 magnitude on the Richter scale struck at 7.47pm east of Masafi.

"It was very light," said an expert at the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology in Abu Dhabi. "Only two or three people reported they had felt it."

The area around Masafi is prone to seismic activity and in 2002, an earthquake of 5.2 magnitude was recorded there.
