Dubai's three-month discount on traffic fines

DUBAI // Dubai's traffic fine discount starts on Sunday and lasts for three months - but only applies to violations committed before Saturday, police said yesterday.

Motorists can get 30 per cent off all their fines during that period. The move aims to encourage motorists to pay what they owe: Dh369 million is due the Dubai Police Traffic Department, said Maj Gen Mohammed Al Zaffin, the department's head.

The discount includes all types of violations. The reduction is also applicable for fees motorists can pay to prevent their vehicles from being confiscated.

The discount period might be extended after it ends on December 11.

Fines must be paid all at once, in cash or using a credit card.

The discount can be obtained at all Dubai Police stations and traffic departments and online. Police are working with the Ministry of Interior to allow people in other emirates to get their discount when paying Dubai fines there.
