Dubai student hopes to play in Chess Olympiad

The Dubai student Ikrom Ilhomzoda hopes to take part in the 2012 Chess Olympiad in Turkey in August and play one of his chess heroes, the English grandmaster Nigel Short.

The 19-year-old Canadian University of Dubai student is ranked second in his home country of Tajikistan. If he finishes in the top five in Tajikistan's competition in June he will qualify for the finals in Istanbul.

"I'm confident that I will take first position in the national tournament this June, qualify as a champion, and then go to Turkey in August," the telecommunications engineering student said.
