Dubai Police foil cocaine trafficking attempts

DUBAI // Dubai Police helped foreign law enforcement agencies foil three attempts to traffick cocaine in the first two months of the year.

A woman, DT, from an unnamed Asian country, was arrested in Sri Lanka on February 6 with 1.4kg of the drug in four boxes of chocolate. She had received the drugs in Peru and travelled to Sri Lanka via Sao Paulo.

On February 2 AR, a man from an unnamed African country who had also travelled from Sao Paulo, was arrested in Cape Town airport when authorities found 2.5kg of the drug hidden in carnival masks.

In a third operation, AS, another man from an unnamed African country, was arrested in the Ivory Coast on January 13 when authorities found more than 2kg of the drug in his suitcases. He too had travelled from Sao Paulo.

All three arrests occurred after tip-offs from Dubai Police, though their exact role was not made clear.
