Dubai police arrest suspected 'copper cable gang'

A gang that specialises in stealing public and private-owned electric cables to sell the copper inside has been arrested, Al Gharbia Police said.

Significant quantities of cables, measuring about 7.5 kilometres in length and weighing 1.3 tonnes, were found hidden at a farm depot in Liwa, said Col Ujail Ali Abdullah, deputy head of Al Gharbia Police. The alleged gang members were workers at farms in Al Ain, including the depot watchman.

On Friday, Sharjah police arrested four Bangladeshis on suspicion of stealing copper cables from warehouses in the emirate's industrial area.
