Dubai plane crash may lead to stricter battery regulations

The US may implement stricter regulations for transporting lithium batteries by air after a fatal plane crash in Dubai in 2010.

The American Department of Transportation this week solicited public comment on the adoption of new regulations, after a UN panel called for lithium batteries to be labelled as dangerous goods and inspected before being loaded on to planes.

These were among precautions issued in February with input from the UAE, 16 other nations and six international bodies. Both pilots were killed when the UPS plane crashed in Dubai 30 minutes after take-off.
