Drug factory found hidden in Al Ain farmhouse

ABU DHABI // A drug factory set up to produce dozens of kilograms of the banned tobacco drug Niswar has been discovered in an Al Ain farmhouse.

It was found by municipal inspectors during an inspection campaign of traditional farmhouses in Al Maragh area.

"About 83 large bags, weighing 95kg, of unprocessed Niswar were seized, in addition to 20 bags of processed Niswar ready for sale," said Hassan Al Kaabi, the deputy section head at the municipality's public health department.

"Three areas for grinding and processing were found on the premises, plus other substances that go into the manufacturing of Niswar, like white cement," he said.

Three Pakistani workers were found at the secret workshop and are being investigated by the municipality. They will be referred to the public prosecutor's office.
