Drug arrests in Dubai double 'compared to last year'

DUBAI // The number of drug related arrests in the emirate doubled in the first quarter of this year compared with the same period last year.

The anti-narcotic department at Dubai Police said yesterday that they made 336 drug related arrests compared with 160 the previous year. No reason was given for the increase.

The cases this year involved 85 Emiratis and 76 from other Arab countries. Drug addiction counted for 88 or the arrests, a further 83 were for possession.
