Driver killed in RAK car crash

A 21-year-old Emirati driver was killed in a car crash at 3am on Monday in Ras Al Khaimah after his vehicle swerved out of control, hitting the kerb and smashing into a light post before coming to a stop on the carriageway opposite.

Police said the crash was so powerful that both the driver and the passenger, aged 22, were thrown out of the vehicle, according to the Arabic-language newspaper Al Ittihad, sister publication of The National.

The passenger sustained moderate injuries.

The pair were driving towards the Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed roundabout on their way home to another emirate.

Col Abdullah Ali Mankhas, head of traffic in Ras Al Khaimah, urged motorists to adhere to speed limits and stay vigilant at all times.
