Fatboy Slim, Norman Cook, DJs at the Barasti Bar last night.

DJ Fatboy Slim makes Dubai debut

DUBAI // The British DJ Fatboy Slim made his Dubai debut last night with a blistering set of dance classics. Playing to a crowd of mainly expatriates at Barasti Bar at Le Méridien Mina Seyahi Beach Resort and Marina, the DJ, whose real name is Norman Cook, got a capacity crowd on its feet with a selection that included some of his best-known hits. "It's fantastic, I'm a long time fan," said Steve Day, from England. "I saw him play in Britain many years ago, and it's great to see him play again."

Emiratis also got caught up in the dance fever. Nasser Al Zaabi, from Ras al Khaimah, said: "It's great that we're getting so many world class acts playing in the UAE." However, a rather abrupt finish to the two-hour show and the lack of an encore left some fans booing. gmcclenaghan@thenational.ae
