Dhow sailing races in Abu Dhabi are postponed due to dangerous sea conditions

ABU DHABI // Two of the capital’s traditional Dhow sailing races have been postponed due to dangerous weather conditions out at sea.

The Al Bwanich Sailing Race was meant to be held on Friday, while the 43ft Al Saadiyat Dhow Sailing Race was meant to be held on Saturday.

They were postponed by the events’ organiser, the Abu Dhabi Sailing & Yacht Club (ADSYC), based on weather forecasts by the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS), according to state news agency Wam.

On Wednesday, the centre warned people against venturing out to sea over the weekend after forecasting rough seas and a surge of seawater on the eastern coast due to strong winds.

The wind was expected to exceed 45kph, kicking up sand and dust.

New dates have not yet been set for the two traditional races, but they will be announced when they have been confirmed, Majid Ateeq Al-Muhairi, head of ADSYC, told Wam.
