DUBAI // A man stole a bus and forged its ownership certificate to sell it, the Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance was told this morning.
The Pakistani MS, 20, is charged with theft at night, forging a copy of an official document and forging the stamp of the Roads and Transport Authority.
Records state that on October 5, 2010, he stole a 1996 van worth Dh65,000 from his employer, which rents buses.
MM, a 50-year-old bus driver at the company, told prosecutors that the manager of the company had purchased the bus about two months before it was stolen. He said one of the drivers registered the bus and obtained an RTA ownership letter, and another driver parked the bus in a sandy patch near the cemetery in Al Muhaisana 2.
MM said that on the night of October 4, he saw the bus in its parking spot. But the next morning, a colleague told him it was missing.
Ten days later, another employee told the manager he had spotted the bus in a spare parts shop in Sharjah's Industrial Area 10, and police were notified.
The next hearing was scheduled for June 29.
