DUBAI // A woman and her teenage boyfriend who were found kissing in a car parked by a mosque have each been sentenced to a month in prison.

SR, 31, was sat on top of MA, 19, and kissing him passionately when a member of the public spotted the couple and reported them to police.

"He looked like a juvenile," recalled the passerby SM, from Oman.

He had investigated the car after becoming suspicious over its location behind the mosque in Al Muhaisnah 4 near Madina Mall.

When he saw what the couple were doing he notified police, but the pair continued kissing, oblivious to his presence.

They were still kissing when officers arrived and arrested them.

The Misdemeanours Court heard a patrol from Al Qusais Police Station made the arrests on January 21 at about 7.30pm.

Under interrogation the pair confessed to being in a relationship and were released on bail.

The woman said the pair had been in the relationship for the past year.

"We met at the bank where we both work," said the woman.

She said on the day in question they each left work in their own cars, before parking near the mosque. Her teenage boyfriend then jumped into her car. However, she denied kissing him.

"It was our first time alone ever," she added.

In court they both denied a charge of kissing in public, but both were found guilty.
