Two men arrested for 'kidnapping man who owed them money'

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of kidnapping and threatening to kill a man who owed them Dh1,395.

Western Region Police claim the two men - a chauffeur and a shepherd - forced a third man, a 27-year-old driver, into a pick-up truck before beating him, tying him up and driving him to a farm where they held him prisoner and threatened to kill him if he did not repay them.

Col Ojiel Ali Abdullah Al Junaibi, the head of Al Gharbia Police Directorate, said officers were tipped off by a relative of the kidnapped man.

He said the two men were caught in a sting operation in which an officer pretended to be a friend of the kidnapped man offering to pay the debt.

MA, 28, and AA, 24, have been referred to the public prosecution.
