Three convicted in Dh5.7m rice kickback scheme

DUBAI // Two rice import-export company employees were sentenced to three years in prison each for seeking and accepting bribes, a Dubai court ruled this morning.

The 33-year-old Pakistani sales manager TN and his Iranian accomplice HA took bribes from a third man, MJ, 30, an Iranian businessman, in return for facilitating his payments, the Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance said.

TN was fined Dh780,000 while HA was fined Dh650,000. MJ was sentenced to three years in prison.

Prosecutors said HA and TN took Dh1.5 million to sign 16 contracts worth Dh5.7m for the benefit of MJ.
