Theft of company car, goods earns three-year sentence

DUBAI // A man released from a real estate investment company was sentenced to three years in prison today for selling a company car, stealing a laptop and a BlackBerry and fleeing the country.

The Tunisian NB, who was also found guilty of forging several unofficial documents and invoices, will be deported after his prison term.

Prosecutors said he took money from the invoices instead of paying it to the relevant departments. He stole a company car and sold it to an Indian man, MQ, for Dh35,000, then flew to his country in November 2010.

NB took Dh60,000 from the company, a 2006 Toyota Camry, the phone, worth Dh1,000 and the Dh2,000 HP laptop.

MQ was charged with possessing a stolen vehicle then selling it to a third man, MK, 34, Bangladeshi, who sold it to a Saudi man who took it to Saudi Arabia. Both men were fined Dh5,000.
