DUBAI // A policeman has been jailed for five years for trying to kidnap his ex-girlfriend.
FA, 26, abducted MA, 23, both Emiratis, after she refused to marry him and ended their relationship.
The two met when MA was 14. She said she tried to leave FA when she was 18 but he threatened to tell her family about the relationship.
Last year she told him it was over. She told prosecutors that "he started calling me but I never answered".
On December 12, MA was walking to her car after work when FA grabbed her and pushed her into the vehicle. He sped off, hitting several other car. MA tried to escape but he punched her, bit her right hand and ripped off her shayla and abaya.
Soon after driving off, one of the car's front tyres burst. FA stopped a taxi and dragged MA into it, claiming she was his wife as she screamed for help.
The driver stopped in front of a traffic police officer, who saw MA waving from the window and heard her screaming.
FA fled before back-up officers arrived and a police car took MA to the station.
FA was ordered to pay Dh21,000 as interim compensation until a civil law suit is settled. The court also ordered him to pay Dh1,000 in legal fees.
