DUBAI // A man raped a woman he met at a bar in a Dubai hotel, the Dubai Criminal Court heard today.
Prosecutors said MH, a 25-year-old Syrian, met OB, a 30-year-old Moldavian saleswoman, while both were drinking alcohol and partying at the hotel on December 15.
They left the hotel together at about 3am and shared a taxi home.
"I was surprised to see [MH] enter the taxi with me. He said we could take the same taxi as his home is on my way," the saleswoman told prosecutors.
The man asked to go home with the saleswoman but told her that he needed to pick up something from his flat at Dubai Marina so they went there first. "When we first entered his flat there were men playing cards in the living room but then they left, either by going to the bedroom or leaving the house," said the saleswoman, adding that they were then alone in the room.
She said the man then pushed her onto the sofa in the living room before raping her without using protection despite her continuous pleas for him to stop.
"After he finished he apologised and asked me to forgive him. He even offered me money but I refused and called the police," said the saleswoman.
During police interrogation the man denied raping the saleswoman and said she had agreed to have sex with him. He also claimed that she had physically abused him.
In court, MH denied charges of sexual harassment and physical assault.
The case was adjourned to July 9.
