Man jailed five years for setting dogs on Dubai police

DUBAI // A drug addict who tried to set his dogs on two police officers has been sentenced to five years in prison and fined Dh20,000.

MD, 26, a student from Iran, opened the dogs' cages as the officers approached and jumped over a wall in a bid to escape, but was caught by his two pursuers and tried to fight them off instead. He broke one of the officer's toes in the process.

After calling back-up to help them subdue the student, the policemen searched his apartment in Al Qusais and made him take a drug test. They found no drugs at his home, but the drug test was positive.

The Criminal Court found him guilty of assaulting police officers and consuming drugs and ordered him to be deported after completing his jail term and paying the fine.
