Man convicted of assault over parking space

DUBAI // A driver got a three-month suspended sentence for kicking off a fight over a parking space.

MH, 25, from Sudan, was convicted of physical assault in the incident, which occurred on June 27, 2009.

Records show that about 8pm on that day, AF, 31, also a driver, left his company's offices in Al Muhaisenah area after work and headed to his car.

When he got there, he couldn't get inside because a bus was parked too close to the driver's door, records show.

AF testified that he asked MH to move his vehicle, but MH became furious and insulted him.

"I'm parked correctly and will not move my car," he told AF, according to records.

MH then pushed AF to the ground and started kicking him along with two of his friends. AF said he was hit in the face before he landed on the ground.

A forensics report said AF suffered a broken ankle and doctors used metal plates to set it. The report said that the break was healed, but that AF would have a 10 per cent permanent disability.

The Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance ordered the suspension of his prison time for three years.
