Man charged with having affair with cousin, Dubai court hears

A captain in the Armed Forces was charged with having sex with his cousin after police found his underwear in her room, a court heard today.

DUBAI // A captain in the Armed Forces was charged with having sex with his cousin after police found his underwear in her room, a court heard today.

Police raided the cousin's apartment in Al Warqa after receiving a tip off that she was throwing wild parties in which she would have sex with different men.

When officers burst into the flat at dawn on November 20 last year, they found the woman, herself a policewoman, in her bedroom and her cousin the captain sat in the living room.

The captain, KH, 29, told the arresting officers he was at the flat to take his cousin HM, 34, to hospital because she had been injured in a car accident and was unable to drive herself.

But when officers found his underwear in the woman's room they confronted him and the pair confessed they were in love and had been having a sexual affair for the past five years.

"His family opposed our marriage because I was a divorcee," the woman testified in court.

Both were charged with having consensual sex; the woman was also charged with illegally possessing alcohol.

"I don't drink alcohol, this bottle is not for me, I'm sure it belongs to the Saudi family that lived in the flat before I did," she said.

Neither of the cousins, who are both Emirati, entered a plea when they appeared at the Misdemeanours Court.

The case was adjourned to April 9.
