Man accused of smuggling opium in his body

A 50-year-old man pleaded not guilty yesterday to smuggling and possessing more than 1.1 kilograms of opium that he allegedly ingested.

An officer told prosecutors that the Iranian JH arrived at Dubai Airport and aroused his suspicion, so he asked one of the inspectors to check his suitcase.

When they found nothing, they asked JH to pass through the X-ray machine, which revealed foreign objects in his system.

When JH went to relieve himself, officers found 16 of a total 59 capsules containing a black substance which they discovered was opium.

The case was adjourned until October 20.
