Maid and her lover burgled house, prosecutors say

DUBAI // A mechanic and a housemaid denied stealing a safe containing Dh8,750 cash and valuables worth more than Dh40,000, a Dubai court heard this morning.

RR, a 33-year-old Indonesian maid, is accused of providing her lover, the Egyptian mechanic WF, 36, with keys to her employer’s house and tipping him off about her boss' whereabouts. The two also are charged with sex outside marriage and trespassing, to both of which they admitted.

The safe contained gold worth about Dh20,000, men’s watches worth more than Dh25,000, ATM cards, chequebooks, documents, passports, and a mobile phone, Dubai criminal Court of First Instance records show.

The Emirati employer BA, 42, an assistant manager, told prosecutors that he returned to his house about 7.30pm on December 17, 2010, to change his clothes and leave.
When he opened his closet, he noticed the safe was missing. He said he immediately called Al Rashidiya police.

He said he suspected RR, and prosecutors said she confessed to all charges, including the theft.

The next hearing was scheduled for May 11 to issue a verdict.
