Life sentence for Dubai man caught with 6kg of hashish

DUBAI // A man caught with six kilograms of hashish has been sentenced to life in prison by the Dubai Criminal Court.

The man prosecutors described as his "partner in crime", who worked as a driver, was given a 10-year prison sentence and a Dh50,000 fine. Both men will be deported after serving their sentences.

The man sentenced to life in prison accuses the driver of asking him to bring the narcotics and admitted he had slipped across the border with the hashish in his suitcase.

Public prosecutors said the man, who is of Asian descent, first travelled to a neighbouring country by boat and then smuggled the drugs into the UAE.
