Labourers convicted of armed robbery


DUBAI // Four labourers who robbed a metalworker at knifepoint will spend a year in jail, a court ruled this morning.

The Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance was told that the men, all Bangladeshis, attacked the metalworker about 10pm on April 4 while he was walking near Al Habtour Contracting labour camps.

SM, 31; MH, 27; AM, 29; and RM, 27, had denied the charges.

ME, 33, testified that four men attacked him. Two restrained him and put two knives to his body while the others robbed him.

According to records, the men were arrested shortly after the incident and were all drunk.

ME said they stole his wallet, which had Dh500 in it, as well as his Nokia mobile phone valued at Dh290, his labour card and a several labour cards of co-workers.

The men will be deported after serving their prison terms.
