Job as car battery thief goes flat

DUBAI // An unemployed man made a living by stealing car batteries, a court heard today.

PD, a 29-year-old Indian, was arrested on January 29 after stealing a battery from a lorry owned by Victoria Shipping Company that was parked in Ras Al Khour.

He became scared after seeing a traffic policeman and threw down his bike and the battery and ran away. The officer then chased and arrested him.

He admitted a theft charge at the Dubai Criminal Court, saying he stole the batteries to make a living. He awaits a verdict on April 29.
