DUBAI // A former professional motorcycle rider who was drunk when he went to a police station to finalise his newlywed wife’s death papers was today fined Dh2,000.
Sean Nicholas Emmett, 43, a Briton, admitted to drinking before going to Al Rashidiya police station on February 28 to sign for the release of his wife’s body.
Abbie Emmett, 27, died nine days earlier after falling from a Dubai high-rise during their honeymoon last April.
The Misdemeanours Court was told that Mr Emmett had been “heavily drunk” and that he confessed to drinking beer, sambuca and brandy the night before.
Mr Emmett said he had been at the Jumeirah Creekside Hotel in Al Garhoud, which was the same hotel where his wife fell to her death.
A blood test confirmed he had been drinking.
The Briton was arrested and released on bail four days later.
The fine for drinking without a licence was issued in his absence.
