Food control authority worker jailed for Dh5,000 scam over fine payment

ABU DHABI // A food control authority employee who scammed a cafe owner out of Dh5,000 was sentenced to six months in prison, then deportation by the Dubai Criminal Court this week. The cafeteria owner who had gone to the authority to pay the fine met NK, from Nepal, and was told he could pay him Dh5,000 instead ofbeing referred to court to pay more. The cafe owner paid him, but was not given a receipt. The owner realised he had been duped only when an inspector arrived at the cafe asking why he had not yet paid the fine. NK admitted to the charges.
