Female prisoner tried to commit suicide after failing in escape attempt
ABU DHABI // A female prisoner who attacked a police guard in an escape attempt and then tried to commit suicide had her fines for each offence reduced by the Appeals Court.
The prisoner, referred to as A, was serving time for an unknown offence when she tried to escape, attacking a police guard in the process. Following the failed escape bid she tried to kill herself using a sharp plastic object to cut her wrists, failing once more.
She was fined Dh2,000 for the escape attempt and Dh2,000 for the suicide attempt, but the Appeals Court reduced each fine to Dh500.
