Expatriate denies insult to policeman, Dubai court hears

DUBAI // A man insulted a police officer and pulled at his uniform while demanding his name and military number, a court has heard.

MB, 38, an American investor, denied assaulting GA, 67, from Yemen in July this year.

Prosecutors told the Dubai Court of Misdemeanours that after midnight, GA noticed that the door of a warehouse in Al Quoz Industrial area was open.

He said he went to check and met the defendant.

"The warehouse did not belong to him so I informed the operations room," the officer said.

He said that as he waited for backup, the defendant insulted him and pulled at his uniform.

"I did not do anything to trigger his actions," he said.

His colleague HM, 48, also from Yemen, testified that the defendant insulted his colleague.

But the defendant denies doing anything untoward, saying he was at the warehouse as part of his work.

"They came and asked for my identification card and I gave it to them," he said, adding that he did not even object to being questioned. "I don't know why is he claiming I pulled his uniform."

GA's testimony is scheduled to be heard on December 19.
