DUBAI // A manager who dragged an employee for 100 metres as she clung to his car door begging for her unpaid salary, was yesterday fined Dh2,000.
The Turkish boss H O, 43, was enraged by his Chinese employee’s demands to be paid the year’s wages she was owed, and the US$100,000 (Dh367,300) she had invested in one of his companies.
The woman, 29, agreed to meet her boss for lunch on September 2 last year to discuss the problem.
He was driving her home to Jumeirah Lakes Towers when he became violent.
“He asked me to get out but I refused until he told me what he would do about my money,” the woman said.
She said her boss started screaming at her before jumping out of his seat and dragging her from the car. But as he returned to his seat she grabbed the door to stop him leaving.
“He didn’t care. He just drove his car, dragging me on the ground,” she said.
The boss claimed his employee had been asking for a loan to start her own company.
“I refused because I didn’t have the money, so she started crying and tried to slap me,” he said.
He said he asked her to get out of the car and when she refused he pulled her out.
He admitted driving off with her holding on to his door.
“I couldn’t move her away and there was no one to help me so I moved my car, but slowly,” he said.
The Misdemeanours Court found him guilty of posing a danger to the woman’s life.
