Drunk man raped maid at knifepoint, Dubai court hears

DUBAI // A drunk man broke into a villa before raping a maid at knifepoint, a court heard today.

Prosecutors said that the maid answered a knock on the door of her sponsor's home in Al Qusais at about 3.30am on September 30 last year to be confronted by her attacker AM, a stateless and unemployed 28-year-old.

"He knocked on my door and I thought it was my colleague, the other maid," said the maid.

The man, who was wearing a mask, barged in waving a knife and demanded to have sex with her. When the maid refused, he threatened to kill her.

"I gave in to his wishes out of fear," said the maid, adding that he left her room as soon as the rape was over. She then discovered he had also stolen her mobile phone.

AM did not enter a plea in court, but prosecutors said he had previously confessed and said he was under the influence of alcohol at the time.

Prosecutors said a forensics report showed that traces of his DNA were found in the maid's room.

He was charged in the Dubai Criminal Court with rape, theft, trespassing and the illegal consumption of alcohol.

The case was adjourned to September 30.
