Dh731,000 worth of cables stolen, court hears

Three men are accused of stealing electrical cables worth Dh731,000 from Al Hamad contracting company in May 2010, a court heard this morning.

HH, a 27-year-old Pakistani, confessed to buying the cables from MD, 28, a Jordanian manager at another contracting company, according to court records. But when questioned by Judge Alsaeed Mohammed Albarghout, both suspects denied knowing the cables were stolen.

But when they were arrested, they told police another man, MJ, 27, a Syrian sales representative who remains at large, stole the cables and sold it to them, records say.

An engineer working for Al Hamad testified he had receipts signed by MJ proving he received the cables, which he was supposed to keep in storage, according to records.
