Dh400,000 blood money to be paid for two workers killed by poisonous gases

An industrial maintenance company in Abu Dhabi has been ordered to pay Dh400,000 in blood money and a Dh10,000 fine for its failure to provide proper safety equipment for its workers, two of whom died of suffocation after being exposed to poisonous gases. Both victims were 21.

A third worker, 30, was also injured in the incident.

Abu Dhabi Misdemeanours Court heard that the workers inhaled highly poisonous hydrogen sulphide and methane gases while conducting maintenance work at the company's water desalination tank.
