DUBAI // An unemployed man who went on a Dh200,000 shopping spree with 15 forged credit cards was sentenced to three years in prison today.
The 42-year-old TB, from Pakistan, was convicted by the Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance with forgery, illegal use of an official document, 20 counts of embezzlement and identity impersonation.
Records, however, do not provide a timeframe for all the shopping, all of which was done using credit cards in another man's name.
On January 2, however, TB visited Al Atheer Jewellery. After wandering around and checking out the goods, he picked out 16 gold bracelets and a necklace.
He told EA, the 46-year-old salesman, he would pay the Dh15,682 bill with his credit card from Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank.
The card was rejected, and TB presented a second credit card. EA tricked him into waiting a little longer and called the Dubai police operations room to report the incident.
He will be deported after serving his prison term.
