Defendant jailed for talking too much

ABU DHABI // A defendant who kept talking at inappropriate times during his trial was ordered to spend the night in prison.

Chief Justice Syed Abdul Baseer ordered police to take SH, from an undisclosed Arab country, into custody for speaking too much to his lawyer while on trial at the criminal court.

The judge said the man's continuous talking while his lawyer presented his case "interfered" with the court hearing.

The man's lawyer repeatedly asked the judge for forgiveness and apologised on his client's behalf, saying the "amount of psychological pain he is in makes him stressed".

However, the judge remained unimpressed and revoked the man's bail.

SH, from an agency which provides companies with labourers, is on trial for forging official documents. He is accused along with SM, an employee of a service company. Both men have blamed each other.
