Counterfeit police buttons case to be heard in Ajman

DUBAI // Four men charged with using and selling fake Dubai police shirt buttons carrying the department's logo were referred to an Ajman court by the Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance this morning.

Dubai police arrested them in February at the shop in Ajman where prosecutors said they were selling the fake police buttons.

MA, a 47-year-old Pakistani, admitted in March to bringing the buttons to the country from Pakistan, and said MS, 28, from Bangladesh, had requested them.

He testified that MS requested the buttons in 2009, after which 900 were fabricated at a factory in Pakistan. He said he gave 700 buttons to MS and stored the remainder in a flat in Sharjah.

MS and another Bangladeshi, ML, 43, have denied the charges. PN, 48, an Indian designer, was not present in court.

MS said he did not know they were fake when he bought them from MA.

Police found 388 buttons when they searched the shops and the houses of the defendants in Ajman, records said.
