'Burglars stole Dh25,000 mobile phone'

DUBAI // Two men today denied breaking into the villa of an assistant pilot and stealing items worth almost Dh100,000 - including a gold-plated mobile phone worth Dh25,000.

Prosecutors told the Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance that HP, 26, and AM, 32, both from Rwanda, broke into the house in Al Qusais after jumping over the wall and forcing the back door open with a sharp tool. They were said to have stolen items worth Dh94,850 while the tenant of the villa, SR, a 25-year-old Emirati assistant pilot, was on holiday.

When the tenant returned last August he found the main door unlocked and the rooms messed up. Among the items missing were a gold-plated mobile phone made by the company Vertu worth Dh25,000 and a diamond watch worth Dh40,000.

Police said several of the stolen items were recovered from the apartment of the two men and that their fingerprints were found inside the house.

The next hearing will be on April 29.
