DUBAI // A human resources manager told an employee’s Syrian husband that he was an animal and that he came from “a hungry nation to beg”, a court heard.
The Dubai Court of Misdemeanours heard that the husband, S?A, 43, went to his wife’s company on November 5 last year, after she returned to work following sick leave.
“She went into a room and I waited for her at the door, but she then called me to get into the room with her and showed me a paper asking me to read what it said because it was in English,” said the husband.
He said that suddenly the British defendant, R?D, 45, started screaming at him and asking him why had he entered the room.
“I told her my wife asked me to, but without hesitation she started insulting me, saying that I was an animal and that I come from a hungry nation that came to this country to beg,” the husband said.
The defendant denied the couple’s allegations and said that she politely asked the husband to wait outside the room while she finalised the wife’s papers terminating her employment. She denied a charge of issuing insults. A verdict is expected soon.
