British drug trafficker jailed for life in Dubai

DUBAI // A British businessman found with large stashes of drugs at his Al Barsha villa has been sentenced to life in prison.

When police searched the home of WR, 36, on March 3 they found 1.5 kilograms of cocaine, more than 300 grams of hashish, LSD tablets and Tramadol and Diazepam capsules.

KM, a 43-year-old Emirati policeman, said the anti-narcotics department had been informed that the man was trafficking in drugs and arrested him at the villa.

"Upon our search, no drugs was found on him, but he willingly led us to an amount of hashish in his kitchen, and other types of drugs in his bedroom," said the policeman.

The officer said that the man confessed to trafficking the hashish from Oman.

The man claimed in court that the drugs were for his personal use, but he was found guilty of trafficking, possessing and using drugs.

He will be deported after completing his prison term. The verdict is subject to appeal within 15 days.
