ABU DHABI // Four bootleggers who beat a rival to death have been sentenced to seven years in prison and told to pay blood money of Dh200,000 between them.
The men were among 16 Indians and one Pakistani accused of killing another Pakistani by hitting him with bricks and canes during a brawl over bootlegging.
The sentence came after relatives waived their right to vengeance in favour of a blood money settlement.
The other 13 men were convicted of bootlegging and each sentenced to six months jail.
Six of the men were sentenced to a further month in jail for violating visa rules while another was sentenced to an additional two months for working for someone other than his sponsor.
All the men will be deported after their release.
