Abu Dhabi man gets life sentence for kidnapping and assault

An Asian man was given a life sentence by the criminal court yesterday after being convicted of kidnapping and assault.

ABU DHABI // An Asian man was given a life sentence by the criminal court yesterday after being convicted of kidnapping and assault.

The man, along with six others, all Asian, followed their victim, also Asian, into a store in the Al Mafraq area. They pulled him into the street where they attacked him with metal wire before forcing him into a vehicle. The attack was captured on CCTV.

The victim was taken to a house in the Musaffah area where he was locked up in a room for two days, during which time the gang continued to attack him using metal wire and knives.

The defendant, who was not present in court, was given a life sentence. The gang of six were all sentenced to six months in prison to be followed by deportation.

An eighth defendant, who was the driver, was fined with Dh5,000 for not having a driver's licence.
